Even if Mike Klassen isn't officially running for an NPA nomination quite yet, he definitely seems to be speed walking towards that conclusion.
First, some thoughts on the Vision AGM…
Contrary to some reports, the meeting attracted 300+ people , in spite of the fact that the agenda and the tasks at hand were mundane at best. Unlike other parties/organizations/associations who are in the midst of a full-on identity crisis, Vision Vancouver’s AGM worked like clockwork. A report from the executive, a speech by new ED Ian Baillie, and a vote for 9 people all acclaimed to the executive (confusing? absolutely!).
But the one thing that struck me about the sentiments in the room is that there is heart and passion within the membership, the executive members, and most importantly, the elected caucus, that go far beyond electoral success.

An epic accomplishment.
The first time that an eighth seed has knocked off a 1st seed after being down 3-1 in the series…a 33 point regular season differential represents the second largest upset series win behind the 1991 Minnesota North Starts victory against Chicago – the top team in the league that year – who were 38 points ahead…and two epic…dare I say legendary performances in a row from Jaraoslav Halak (like I have been saying for years, trade Carey Price for 100 water bottles…the good kind).
I am going to bask in this for a while, but will be back with some thoughts from the Vision Vancouver AGM last night, which compared to this half empty room, was packed. I of course had to stroll in late and witness 250 heads turn to witness the scarf, the jersey and the hat representing Les Boys…but that is another story.
On to Crosby and the Penguins.

To the critics who take every opportunity to try and attach blame for all that ails Vancouver, I say: this is only the beginning.
Although, coming from the perspective of an administration and particularly a mayoral chief of staff that presided over a trademark protecting the Mayor’s own intellectual property and expenditures of $662,000 by an NPA controlled City Council to “develop an ED Strategy…over 3 years from 2006 to 2008” that was never completed, I can understand the deep-seeded insecurity.

The first component of the motion regarding the Non Partisan Association’s “Name Review” at tonight’s AGM reads as follows:
“The Committee shall review the name of the Non Partisan Association and recommend alternative names for consideration by the membership; such names should preferably retain the ‘NPA’ initials while helping to position the NPA as a group of forward-looking people working toward a better Vancouver.”
Well, to those couple of dozen members who will be showing up tonight, let me start you off with a few suggestions.
