FORMER journalist and rabid Vision Vancouver critic: a racist?

For some, an aptly placed zipper might do a world of good.

It wasn’t too long ago that Alex Tsakumis, the former 24 hours columnist and virulent anti-Vision Vancouver political commentator, suggested I might be a racist for using the term “limey” when referring to British journlists.

Though,  as I pointed out, the term “limey” has absolutely nothing to do with race.

But how about his own views…could they be considered racist?

Take a look at this screen shot from his website (captured for fear he will pull it down) and judge for yourself:

The commenter, who is a part of a Hindu organization, states that “PUNJAB where Sikhs come from has the highest corruption index in India” and that “our organization is against all immigration to Canada PERIOD, because of the inept way Liberals imported (mostly) Sikhs and Muslims here.”

So what does Alex Tsakumis say in response?  Does he say that immigration is a vital part of Canada’s past, present and future, and that shutting the doors to immigrants would be a collossal mistake?  Does he object to the defamatory statements about the Punjab?

No.  Instead, he agrees with Mr. Patel:

“And good for you and your organization fro taking the stand you have. I completely agree with you.”

Racist? Well, I’ll let readers judge for themselves.  As for me?  I am absolutely disgusted with Tsakumis’ compliant approach to such blatant discrimination.

FACT OF THE DAY

In 2010, Vancouver had fewer than half the number of murders than it had in 2009.  There were nine homicides within Vancouver’s city limits, down from 19 killings the previous year.

Quote OF THE DAY

“Perhaps it was my silk dress or the new perfume I’ve been wearing lately. When I asked Suzanne Anton what her New Year’s resolution was, she replied, “To kiss a pretty girl!” and pecked me on the cheek.”  – Writer Emily Barca describing her encounter with the lone NPA City Councillor on New Year’s Eve.
