I am out for a morning meeting, but will be back with 3 posts later in the day, including a commentary on the NPA’s flexible positioning on the school closures, an analysis of the Christy Clark entry into the Liberal leadership race, and also a rant on how the NDP has put themselves into a deep hole when it comes to the next six months and a potential provincial election.

Christy Clark to announce within days; campaign pulls in top Coleman operative

Posted by Jonathan Ross

Christy Clark is expected to formally enter the leadership race Tuesday or Wednesday.

Christy Clark was poised to enter the leadership race either Tuesday or Wednesday, although after all of the intrigue arising from Carole James’ sudden departure, I have a feeling that Clark might make it official tomorrow.

Meanwhile, rumour has it that Patrick Kinsella, who is of course one of the BC Liberals’ top backroom boys, has signed on with the Clark campaign after his first choice, Rich Coleman, pulled the plug on his leadership candidacy last week.  I have a feeling that another Rich Coleman supporter Bob Rennie will also likely sign on.

Clark’s campaign seems to have a pretty powerful group of federal Liberal organizers already on the ground, although I am unsure about the Conservative contingent that people like Ken Boessenkool are going to be able to bring on board.

The line that is emerging from operatives and supporters of Kevin Falcon is that a Clark victory would prompt several current MLAs to leave the BC Liberals and provide the BC Conservative party with their first representatives in the legislature.  They are claiming that the party would become even more fractured if Clark, who has been out of politics for the past six years, were to win.

A pretty clever political ploy if you ask me, but complete and utter nonsense from a campaign that seems to have a candidate that is far more polarizing than a centrist like Clark.

Is Carole going to resign?

UPDATE: Yup.

Caucus staff have bolted to Victoria.  Carole James has announced that she will be speaking in 18 minutes in a press conference.  She has been mortally wounded, in spite of her expressed will to fight and make her caucus members accountable for their actions.  She had a meeting yesterday that was cancelled due to being unable to corral everyone into the same room.

Is she about to resign?

Stuart MacKinnon and Ian Robertson prove their transparent politics

Posted by Jonathan Ross

Mackinnon was on the horn last night, while Robertson didn't even bother to show up - much like this picture from the Kerrisdale Community Centre.

An inch deep and a mile wide…that seems to be the best description of the opposition when it comes to budgetary issues regarding the Vancouver Park Board.

Political observers might remember the joint press release sent out by Green Park Board Commissioner Stuart Mackinnon and NPA Park Board Commissioner Ian Robertson.

Yet in spite of that precursor, yesterday’s Council meeting (which had in excess of 30 speakers interested in offering their opinions on the budget) offered performances (or a lack thereof) that didn’t exactly live up to the bluster.

FACT OF THE DAY

In 2010, Vancouver had fewer than half the number of murders than it had in 2009.  There were nine homicides within Vancouver’s city limits, down from 19 killings the previous year.

Quote OF THE DAY

“Perhaps it was my silk dress or the new perfume I’ve been wearing lately. When I asked Suzanne Anton what her New Year’s resolution was, she replied, “To kiss a pretty girl!” and pecked me on the cheek.”  – Writer Emily Barca describing her encounter with the lone NPA City Councillor on New Year’s Eve.
