Laments about New Year's Eve celebrations were bound to be negative regardless of what direction the City of Vancouver decided to move towards.
Happy New Year to everyone. The site experienced some technical difficulties to start the year, but is now back and functional, with a site redesign in the works.
This story referred to in this letter made the rounds on several newscasts, blogs and publications around the city to end the year. “Vancouver is a no-fun city…Vancouver isn’t world class…Vancouver is not capitalizing on the party spirit left over from the Olympics…City Hall has shown no leadership in getting people excited”…and on it went.
The fact of the matter is that it really didn’t matter what the City of Vancouver decided to do on New Year’s Eve…because it was inevitable that criticism would follow.

The anonymous "Vision hierarch " still has not emerged as a real person. I am anxiously awaiting this individual's story.
“Do you really believe Vision Vancouver dumb enough to create a “media hit list” & shared it? I have serious doubts. A Trojan Horse story?” – Jeff Lee, Vancouver Sun – allegedly number 9
“I agree with Jeff Lee on the media hit list until I see real proof. It struck me as absurd.” – Charlie Smith, Editor of the Georgia Straight – allegedly number 11
“I have seen the “problem media” email. Leaker claims Mayor’s as sistant Quinlan helped create it.” – Bob Mackin, 24 Hours – allegedly number 12 (EDITOR’S NOTE: If Bob has seen an email, and is stating that the leaker is only claming that Mayor’s assistant Quinlan helped create it, then obviously the email Mackin saw did not come from Quinlan – which inserts huge suspicion into this “story”)

Charlie Smith is seriously putting his paper's tagline of "Vancouver's News and Entertainment Weekly" in serious doubt - on both fronts.
Charlie Smith’s follow-up attempt at humour to his post on the potential surrounding Jean Chretien’s death is once again in poor taste. He just doesn’t get it.
In fact, I am quite surprised that he didn’t examine the potential for political gain over the tragic death of Mario Lague, Michael Ignatieff’s communications director which occurred just this morning. Although, this was written by Stephen Hui, so maybe Charlie’s post-script of this loss of life is on its way.
Yesterday I received an email from Smith that stated the following:
