For shame, Luongo

Posted by Jonathan Ross

It is hard to tell whether last year's crying or this year's comments are worse.

As readers of the website are no doubt aware, I am a huge Habs fan, and so tonight is an epic event for me.

As a native born and bred Vancouverite, however, I also cheer the Canucks on, and really had high hopes for beating Chicago after last year’s debacle.

Well, that of course didn’t happen.

Yes, the defence were bruised and battered, and Willie Mitchell’s long absence gave the remaining Canuck defenders a reason to step up their game.  Last night was most definitely not the best example of that.

But what I am pissed about this morning is not so much the loss, which makes me sad, but rather Luongo’s ridiculous post-game comments from last night:

“I don’t know how they come in here and beat us like that,” said Luongo, who joked that at least this time in the elimination game, “ I kept it under seven goals. So improvement was made.

I don’t think they’re a better team than us, but maybe a smarter team that knows how to win.”

Are you serious?

FACT OF THE DAY

In 2010, Vancouver had fewer than half the number of murders than it had in 2009.  There were nine homicides within Vancouver’s city limits, down from 19 killings the previous year.

Quote OF THE DAY

“Perhaps it was my silk dress or the new perfume I’ve been wearing lately. When I asked Suzanne Anton what her New Year’s resolution was, she replied, “To kiss a pretty girl!” and pecked me on the cheek.”  – Writer Emily Barca describing her encounter with the lone NPA City Councillor on New Year’s Eve.
