Thoughts from the road on some selective reporting and the resulting spin

The 24 hours newspaper’s Bob Mackin is reporting that a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has discovered a summary stating that “the process to develop the Vancouver Green Capital slogan and logo cost $239,000 plus GST.” The City Caucus boys (a website that I can’t currently get on my Blackberry because someone forgot to renew their domain in time), and more specifically Daniel Fontaine enthusiastically promotes the artcle and talks about his experience with naming the campaign and designing a logo for Ecodensity.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I want to see the “summary” that Mackin summarized from.

$239,000 for a logo? How about a broader campaign of promotion as mentioned previously on this site with regards to branding Vancouver to the world. Metro Vancouver Commerce has established a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) campaign for Vancouver, and Green Capital is a part of these efforts ongoing.

I hear that the money include the costs associated with Vancouver House and promotional materials for high level prentations like video.

If indeed Vancouver’s pavillion to the world is a part of the mix of products and services the City of Vancouver is getting for these costs, Mackin’s selective reporting only tells half a story.

Once again, I’d like to see the FOI documents in their entirety before I am dizzied by the spin.
